while I’m glad they got me in this week, they didn’t schedule enough time to rebalance the tires. So just an alignment and I’ll do the balance later on (faulty wheel weight adhesive has risk of falling off).
Those drive-in service lanes are awkward as all hell because EVERYONE was looking at me - as the 250 is belching out non catalytic converter diesel exhaust. My b.
Anyways, working on some homework, AMA.

Can’t imagine there is much to align on our trucks..
I’m always amazed that I’m legally allowed to drive a diesel with no factory emissions equipment in California.

I saw one thing that was adjustable when doing the suspension. Plus my steering wheel was turned 90 to go straight and I think it’s because the steering stabilizer you have to loosen and flip up a shackle thing to make room. After that - steering was 90 over. The rear there is 0 to align.
The no cat thing still blows my mind. She a stinky gurl I'll tell you what.

Actually there is. There are shim kits for springs plates on the rear axle (although they theoretically shouldn’t be needed unless something bad has happened to the truck) , and camber/caster up front is adjusted with sleeves that alter either the upper or lower ball joint mounting position (especially on 4x4 trucks) . The downside is that changing those sleeves up front comes with a couple of hours of labor on top of the alignment. Toe is of course adjusted at the tie-rod end.

Hmmm, the more you know. It tracked straight as anything before lift and the kit included a longer track bar with the new springs and shocks. We did a driveway tape measure check and it seemed super square so who knows. Hopefully it's an easy one then.

What is the deal with not having a cat in CA on a diesel?

Pre-emissions. Late ‘99 to 01 Super Dutys did not come with a cat from the factory. so they’re legal in Cali.
If it were an early ‘99, it would have a cat and I would not legally be allowed to remove it.
‘01.5 and up 6-speed 7.3's have cats, but the autos still do not.
Not that the cat really did much of anything...7.3's do not have O2 sensors.
When ‘04 model year came around all diesel trucks had to have cats and EGR’s, which is why the 7.3 was replaced with the 6.0.

Managed to get some work done at McGrath Volvo’s brand new building while having my oil changed.
